Larry Fitzgerald, Patrick Peterson compete on practice field and golf course
The Arizona Cardinals have one sure Hall of Famer on the team in Larry Fitzgerald. A second, cornerback Patrick Peterson, is on that path as well. The two square off in practice daily. They also square off when they are not on the practice field, too.
The two are very close. Both also are avid golfers and spend a lot of time together competing on the golf course.
“He’s like my little brother,” Fitzgerald said, according to the Arizona Republic’s Dan Bickley. “We play 60 rounds a year together, all across the country. He might break up a pass in practice and I’ll say, ‘That’s O.K., I’m going to whip your (backside) when we get on the course later in the afternoon.’ So I’m really excited.”
The two are headed this offseason to golf at Augusta National, where the Masters is played every year.
It will be Fitzgerald’s fifth time golfing there, while it will be Peterson’s first.
Neither one always wins, just like on the practice field. Fitzgerald is a legend as a receiver. Peterson is arguably the best cover guy in the NFL. Fitz catches some and Peterson breaks some up. It goes the same way in golf.
“My goal is to beat Patrick consistently, and I haven’t been able to do that,” Fitzgerald said.
Fitzgerald will not likely play many more years. 2018 might be his final season. But even when he is done with football, it appears he and Peterson will be golfing together for many years beyond that.
