NFL CB Peterson donates money for new scoreboard for Blanche Ely
POMPANO BEACH – Three years after Blanche Ely finished impressive renovation of its football stadium, its will unveil a brand-spanking new scoreboard at its 2014 home opener Friday against Plantation.
The scoreboard will bear former Ely star Patrick Peterson’s name. Peterson, who went on to play at LSU and now is an NFL cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals, is one of two private donors who funded the project, Ely athletic director Andrea Johnson said.
Peterson is a 2008 Ely graduate. He was named USA Today’s Defensive Player of the Year as a high school senior in 2007, and was also named a Parade and U.S. Army All-American.
Ely also is set to unveil new uniforms Friday for its home opener. Because of a unique scheduling quirk, the Tigers opened the season at Clewiston (Aug. 29), Deerfield Beach (Sept. 12), Glades Central (Sept. 19), Miami Northwestern (Sept. 26) and Fort Lauderdale (Oct. 2).
Starting Friday, the Tigers will play four consecutive home games against Plantation, Boyd Anderson, Cardinal Gibbons and Northeast before ending the regular season against Dillard in the annual “Soul Bowl”.
